E NETs Conference Barcelona March 2017

ENETS is comprised of Europe’s top physicians and scientists dedicated to the treatment of neuroendocrine tumors and carcinoma. The four days of meetings in March in Barcelona with more than 1,500 participants featured posters and presentations from over 350 clinicians and researchers on clinical, translational, and basic research. I attended this event representing the Ann Edgar Trust and the Pheo Para Troopers. I had intended to write a summary of this event but to be honest much of the ENets Conference was over my head and trying to summarise all that information was always going to be challenging. It was wonderful to see so many dedicated doctors, nurses and researchers all trying their very best to find new treatments and better standards of care I learnt so much.

My main reason for being there was for the first Patient-Physician Symposium. The aim was to bring leading NET medical experts and patient representatives together on the same stage to discuss common unmet needs, and look towards a common approach to tackle them. It was also to attend the INCA Summit further discussing unmet needs. The summit was a whole day event and it was really good to see and learn from other support groups from around the world. It certainly made me realise how lucky we are in Scotland to have such easy access to great health care. However we still have some way to go in terms of raising awareness and access to the latest treatments and diagnostics could be improved, I am thinking Gallium 68 Scans, PRRT treatments and access to specialist NET Nurses in Scotland. We as a trust also have a very long way to go in terms of reaching patients across Scotland. It seems to me that together we can do it, and I came home with the sense that working with our great doctors and nurses and with our partner organisations we can make a big difference.

The INCA Summit further discussing unmet needs have just issued their first newsletter. This newsletter has a very good summary of ENETs and it has links to the videos of the INCA Summit. You can access all of this at the following link which is definately worth a look. http://ebull.dusteddesign.com/t/ViewEmail/r/23AB81CA70934D042540EF23F30FEDED/0CA58685BB8B6AC5DCCB6820C4466A74
